Job Description:

Applicants are now invited to apply for the position of Registrar. Reporting to the Director of Operations & Exhibitions, and additionally working to support the Polygon Gallery Curatorial team, the Registrar will ensure the safe stewardship of incoming and outgoing artworks for exhibition.

This is a regular, part-time position (0.6 FTE). The Registrar will work 24 hours a week, including Mondays and Tuesdays. Due to exhibition deadlines, it may be necessary to occasionally adjust working schedule to accommodate busy exhibition changeover periods or artwork delivery dates. This may include evenings and possible weekends.

The full-time equivalent annual salary for this position will range from $58,000 – $68,000, which when prorated is $34,800 to $40,800 per year based on the 0.6 FTE. This position includes benefits.

Responsibilities:

-Coordinating with artists, institutions, and collectors to arrange incoming and outgoing loans for exhibition aging logistics of local, national, and international shipments of artwork, coordinating with Director of Operations & Exhibitions and Curatorial Department on exhibition budgets and timelines
-Completing customs forms, waybills, shipping labels, etc.
-Completing loan agreements, and communicating display specifications to Production Manager
-Coordinating with a team of art handlers to safely pack/unpack crates
-Documenting and condition reporting incoming and outgoing artworks
-Monitoring and maintaining mounted exhibitions, the Gallery’s archival records, a small rotating inventory of artworks in storage, and the Gallery’s in-house reference library
-Monitoring Gallery temperature and humidity

Qualifications:

-A thorough understanding of best practices for the care, handling, and transport of art objects
-Patience, maturity, and a keen eye for detail
-A strong understanding of shipping artworks internationally (customs paperwork, brokerage, insurance coverage, etc.)
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Mac OS
-Strong organization and communication skills
-The ability to meet deadlines, maintain priorities, and adjust as shifting priorities and timelines arise
-A willingness and enthusiasm to adapt within a dynamic work environment
-Previous experience working in a museum, art gallery or cultural setting
-Valid B.C. Driver’s license is an asset
