Shadbolt in Your Community offers satellite fine arts programs in SD41 elementary schools, community centres, Burnaby community events, and Summer camps; providing opportunities to sample multi-discipline programs at a more accessible cost. These programs are inclusive, support freedom of expression and give students the experience of working with arts specialists in a creative learning environment that supports community growth. Involvement in the arts fosters important skills developed through imagination; critical thinking, problem solving, social and emotional skills, self-confidence, self-discipline and verbal and non-verbal communication.

Job Description:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Drama instructor to teach drama and theatre arts to children, ages 6-18. The ideal candidate would have a passion for working with children, experience in theatre, and the ability to create a fun and supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities:

The instructor will be responsible for guiding students through drama exercises, games and activities. Teach fundamentals for acting, improvisation and stage presence to children of varying ages and skill levels. Duties include providing class outlines and curriculum goals that are appropriate for the age groups and designed to improve students confidence and creativity. Shadbolt in your Community’s Drama instructors will teach a variety of programs at facilities across Burnaby and Elementary Schools.

Students will vary in age based on the type of class being taught but will primarily be children and youth (ages 4-18).

Qualifications:

Qualifications include completion of, a university or college level drama program, Bachelor’s in fine arts. You must have a strong teaching background and experience teaching drama to a variety of age groups from children to teens. High Five® is considered an asset. Strong communication and organization skills. Successful candidates must have Emergency Level First Aid- CPR C or be willing to obtain certification prior to the start of the program. This position could work at any site within the City of Burnaby.
We are looking for availability for Afterschool times, and possible weekends; please note these are contract positions, and hours are based on registration.
