The Chan Centre is part of UBC’s Arts and Culture District, and hosts rehearsals and performances by the UBC School of Music and the UBC Department of Theatre and Film throughout the year.

Job Description:

The Ticket Office of the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts is looking for highly motivated, proactive self-starters who are able to provide exceptional guest service. The Ticket Seller has a variety of duties serving five venues including the 1,400 seat Chan Shun Concert Hall, the 275 seat Telus Studio Theatre, 160 seat Royal Bank Cinema, 225 seat Roy Barnett Recital Hall and 522 seat Old Auditorium. Ticket Sellers will respond to the needs of the commercial and academic clients as required.

This is a part-time, on-call, hourly position

Scheduled hours are flexible and vary by month based on event activity.

Organizational Status

Reports to Manager, Ticketing and Front of House.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

Errors could have serious impact on relations with users and patrons and negatively effect the reputation of the Chan Centre and the University resulting in lost revenue. Errors in judgement could result in dissatisfied patrons. Errors in completing payment transactions could result in shrinkage and loss of revenue to the Chan Centre.

Supervision Received

Works under direct supervision of Ticket Office Supervisor and/or Ticket Captain, and reports new or unusual problems to the Manager, Ticketing and Front of House, Ticket Office Supervisor, and/or Ticket Captain.

This position falls within the CUPE 2590 Union.

Responsibilities:

Work Performed

- Prior to patron arrival, ensure that point-of-sales system is in good working order and all required supplies are available for the performances and/or events
- Answering questions and conducting in-person and over the phone ticket sales at the Chan Centre Ticket Office using AudienceView ticketing platform.
- Monitor and respond to all emails, calls and messages that come into the Box Office Helpline

- Ensure no sales transactions are left out of balance

- Provide exemplary guest service in accordance with Chan Centre policies and standards.

- Ensure the ticket office remains orderly throughout the shift

- Performs other related tasks as required in a dynamic and developing work environment.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation. One year experience working in a professional Ticket Office using a computerized ticketing system or two years of related experience.

- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with a computerized ticketing system, particularly AudienceView, is an asset but training will be provided. Applicants with other arts, entertainment or event experience are encouraged to apply.

-An understanding of basic computer skills and the Windows operating system.

-Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

- Ability to deal with a diversity of people in a calm, courteous, and effective manner.

- Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with patrons.

- Must be able to work irregular hours and respond to on-call demands including evenings and weekends. Ability to work flexible shift times an asset.

-Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

-Professional demeanor is essential to the position.
