Position: Part-Time Art Instructor (Soapstone Carving)
Location: In-class instruction at schools in Greater Vancouver / Lower Mainland
Grade Levels: Kindergarten to Grade 12 (mostly grades 3 to 6)
Schedule: Weekdays, school hours (flexible hours depending on demand)
Start Date: ASAP

Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated, casual-part-time Art Instructor to teach stone carving to students in grades K-12. We are looking for someone that would be willing to be available for 4 to 20 hrs per week, depending on demand. The ideal candidate will guide students in creating beautiful animal sculptures from natural soapstone, based on an established art program. This position is perfect for an individual passionate about art and skilled in working with children and who is looking for additional income. This position can be long-term for the right candidate. It will include in depth in-class training with an experienced instructor.

Responsibilities:

Teach students the fundamentals of stone carving, using techniques derived from the Greco-Roman sculpture traditions. Will be working with Spanish alabaster and Brazilian Soapstone.

Adapt lessons for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, considering varying skill levels.

Ensure student safety by teaching proper handling of tools and materials.

Promote creativity, artistic expression, and an appreciation for natural materials.

Manage classroom behaviour and maintain a productive and respectful learning environment.

Provide feedback and support to students to help them improve their techniques.

Set up and clean up the classroom before and after sessions, ensuring all tools and materials are properly stored.

Qualifications:

Experience with Children: Prior experience working with children, ideally in an educational or art-related setting. Art Background: Background or strong interest in visual arts, especially sculpture or carving.
Classroom Management: Strong classroom management skills to create a positive and engaging learning environment.
Reliability: Must be punctual, organized, and dependable.
Transportation: Must have access to a car for travel between schools.
Availability: Flexible availability on weekdays; the ability to commit to a set schedule is highly preferred. (for example.., Available Tuesday, Thursday before noon, Fridays after 11am…as example!)
Police background check may be required.

Ability to speak French is an asset but not required.
