Established in 1968, West Vancouver Community Arts Council (WVCAC) is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to increase and broaden the opportunities for West Vancouver and all North Shore citizens to enjoy and participate in cultural activities. The WVCAC produces numerous concert series, programs two exhibition spaces, undertakes numerous community arts programs and runs a gift shop. Based out of the Silk Purse Arts Centre on the West Vancouver waterfront, WVCAC is a vital cultural institution in the North Shore cultural landscape.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is the strategic, operational, and artistic leader of the WVCAC. Responsible for managing all aspects of the organization's internal operations and outward facing activities, the Executive Director ensures the organization remains aligned with the organization’s mandate and strategic priorities.

As the spokesperson who articulates the vision, mission, and direction of the organization, the Executive Director facilitates key stakeholder, government, donor, and granter relationships to strengthen partnerships, opportunities, and community impact, while maintaining a strong, sustainable, and relevant organization.

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management
• Set the strategic direction and goals, in coordination with the Board.
• Implement the strategic and operational plans of WVCAC.
• Make recommendations to the Board for appropriate staffing and organizational structure to support ongoing operations.
• Motivate and inspire the WVCAC team, including staff, contractors and volunteers.
• Ensure WVCAC is recognized and celebrated for its positive contributions and excellent programs.
• Ensure WVCAC is in compliance with all policies, bylaws, laws and regulations.

Advocacy, Partnerships and Relationships
• Act as the face of WVCAC in the community and with key stakeholders.
• Establish and enhance relationships with individuals and organizations, including local arts organizations, funders and partnering agencies.

Program Development and Execution
• Develop and articulate a compelling artistic vision for WVCAC.
• Propose, develop, implement and oversee an annual cycle of programming and services.
• Evaluate programming on an on-going basis and adjust as needed
• Oversee the maintenance of the physical infrastructure, liaising with the District of West Vancouver’s Facilities Department.

Staff Management
• Hire and supervise all staff and contractor positions.
• Undertake annual performance review of staff and contractors.

Financial Management
• Develop budgets for Board approval.
• Manage the budget and provide appropriate reporting for the Board to execute its financial oversight and decision-making responsibilities.
• Work with the Treasurer, bookkeeper, accountant and auditor to ensure clear and transparent reporting to all stakeholders.

Fund Development, Donors and Members
• Plan, strategize and execute individual, corporate, foundation and government resource development.
• Research, prepare and submit funding applications to foundations and public grantors.
• Oversee fundraising activities, donor and membership campaigns and corporate giving, working with the Fund Development Committee.

Governance
• Establish and maintain an effective and collaborative working relationship with the Board.
• Provide support to the Board and work closely with the Board to ensure strong fiscal health for WVCAC.
• Attend and participate in all Board and standing committee meetings as an ex-officio member.
• Assist Board committees in developing and implementing their goals, objectives and policies.

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will have a post-secondary education and at least 5 years of progressive experience at a leadership level in arts organizations, preferably community-serving arts organizations. A proven track record of performing arts programming and knowledge of visual arts exhibitions. Financial literacy, including budget preparation and management, in a not-for-profit environment is required. Strong communication skills – verbal and written are a must. Excellent organizational skills. An ability to be a community and relationship builder. Knowledge of West Vancouver and the North Shore is an asset. Some physical work is required.

Remuneration:

$62,000 - $65,000 per annum. Benefits include 3 weeks vacation and one week paid closure over the December holidays. Flexible hours are required. Potential for hybrid work arrangements.
