Job Description:

Reporting to the BC Culture Days Program Director, the Marketing & Communications Assistant will support the 2025 BC-wide campaign leading up to the Culture Days (Sept. 19-October 12). Culture Days is an annual pan-Canadian celebration of arts, culture and heritage inviting the public behind the scenes to discover the world of artists and other creative people in their community. Last year, artists, arts organizations, and other cultural organizations hosted 685 Culture Days activities in 65 communities across the province.

Contract Period: July 7 – August 29, 2025 (35 hrs/week)

Location: This is a remote position requiring daily online communication with BC Culture Days staff and collaborators via Zoom, Google Workspace, and email.

Hours: 9am-5pm (Monday-Friday)

Responsibilities:

• Assist in keeping track of new event registrations and organizing related media content

• Add Culture Days dates/activities to public event listings

• Update media contact list

• Proofread and revise registered event descriptions

• Assist with crafting ALT Text and Image Descriptions for social posts and web photos

• Compile information and content for media kits

• Brainstorm story ideas for PR campaign pitches and liaise with publicist

• Assist in drafting, proofreading PR releases and materials (checking accuracy of event details, cross referencing website to make sure details are up to date and correct before sending media releases are sent out)

• Contribute blog posts to Culture Days website

• Assist with monitoring social media daily (reviewing posts for accuracy, adding tags, etc.)

• Assist with creation of graphics and scheduling for general social media campaign posts

• Create promotional video content for Tik Tok and YouTube

• Prepare meeting minutes.

Qualifications:

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preference given to individuals with a post-secondary degree in Digital Marketing, Film, Media Arts, Fine Arts, Journalism, English, Communications, Indigenous Studies, or Arts Administration.

Previous work experience managing social media: Instagram, Facebook, Blue Sky, TikTok, YouTube.

Experience with Photoshop, graphic design (eg. InDesign, Canva), and iMovie.

Required fluency in English.

Fluency in a second language is an asset.

Photography skills are an asset.

Eligibility:

Must

be under 30 years of age at the start of the employment;

be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection

has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*

reside in B.C.; and, have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

*International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.

Remuneration:

$21/hour
