Founded in 1957, the British Columbia Museums Association (BCMA) supports a thriving arts, culture, and heritage sector through collaboration, networking, advocacy, innovation, and professional development. Since our founding, the BCMA has grown to include more than 450 members in every corner of British Columbia including museums, art galleries, science centres, Indigenous cultural organizations, First Nations, heritage sites, botanical and zoological gardens, cultural centres, conservation institutes, grassroots arts organizations, exhibition galleries permanently maintained by libraries and archives, and nature reserves.
The BCMA supports the professionals and volunteers who work in BC’s cultural sector and we aim to improve the cultural literacy of all British Columbians. The BCMA collaborates with arts, culture, and heritage partners to engage with all levels of government to share stories and make them aware of the true impact our sector has in communities large and small across the province. Since 2017 the BCMA has won several provincial and national awards for its work to support BC’s arts and culture sector through innovative programming, timely resources, and cross-country collaborations. In 2023, the BCMA updated its mission, vision, and values to better reflect its organizational priorities and how the sector is growing.

Job Description:
The BC Museums Association is searching for an experienced, innovative, and passionate individual to join our team as a Director of Finance & Revenue/Deputy Executive Director. Collaborating with and reporting to the Executive Director, and working closely with BCMA Council, the Finance & Revenue Director will lead key aspects of BCMA operations including revenue development, financial management, and long-term sustainability of the organisation.
About the role
The Director of Finance & Revenue (DoFR) plays a vital role in maintaining organizational capacity and financial sustainability of the Association. They will develop and maintain administrative, financial, and operational frameworks that support programs and services and allow the organization to thrive and deliver value for members, partners, and the larger arts, culture, and heritage community.
The DoFR’s primary responsibilities will include leading annual revenue development and financial processes, managing day-to-day financial operations, and working closely with the BCMA Financial Sustainability & Governance Committee and Council to ensure the long-term sustainability of the organisation.
Work environment and compensation
Typical work hours: Monday – Friday (35 hours per week)
$70,000 – $75,000 annual salary plus statutory benefits & group health plan
This is a permanent position with an anticipated start date of May 1, 2025.
While we have an office in Victoria, the BCMA is a virtual-first organization and the team works remotely. We welcome applications from any location in British Columbia.
Responsibilities:
Work alongside the Executive Director and assist in the financial stewardship of the organization
Work with BCMA Council and Financial Sustainability & Governance Committee to support the sustainability and revenue diversification of the BCMA
High-level project management
Implement and revise business plan, risk register and strategic priorities
Grow organizational capacity
Support the establishment of a Fund Development Working Group

Qualifications:
Relevant Skills, Experiences, and Interests
Passion for arts, culture, heritage, equity, and community
Strong financial literacy skills
Experience in working with external contractors (bookkeeping, accounting etc.)
Grant writing and revenue development experience
Significant experience with and knowledge of government funders, private foundations, corporate sponsors, and other funding bodies
Experience with social financing/social enterprises is an asset
Highly developed organizational, time management, and teamwork skills
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
