VEMS is a BC non profit Society with a CRA charitable designation. Our goal is to bring as much music as possible to kids in Vancouver schools. We offer extracurricular choir to children in their schools in Vancouver.

Job Description:

The accompanist assists the Choral Director in providing a choral program that is joyful, inclusive and fun. The pianist’s main job is to provide piano accompaniment to music chosen by the conductor, and to support in foundation chords, scales etc. during vocal warm-up. Making sure children are safe is also part of the job.

Responsibilities:

Review/prepare piano parts of music provided by conductor
Help conductor set up/put away any chairs required for rehearsal
Ensure children are safe, particularly at the end of rehearsal
Punctual
Play at all weekly rehearsals:
- follow conductor’s lead
- assist the children as they learn new songs by bringing out the melody or playing melody only
- play chords/scales/arpeggios to assist vocal warm-ups
Attend and play for all concerts/demonstrations for parents each term – this may include an after-school concert, an assembly where the choir sings for their school, a field trip where the choir sings out in the community
Follow all public health and safety guidelines

Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in piano or ARCT or in the process of acquiring said degree, or equivalent training and experience
Having some experience with voice, singing and choir is an asset
Having experience accompanying choirs/soloists/instrumentalists is an asset
Enjoys working with children
Patient, organized, a sense of humour
