Surrey City Council Announces Approvals Around Cultural Grants Program
/Surrey City Council announced a suite of approvals around its Cultural Grants Program January 16, including a $100,000 increase to the program budget, allocation adjustments for not-for-profit arts and cultural organizations, and awarding 68 cultural grants totalling $321,925.
Program Budget Increases
On January 16, 2017, Surrey City Council approved an increase to the Cultural Grants Program budget, now providing up to $400,000 annually. This reflects a $100,000 increase to the overall program budget.
Allocation Adjustments
Council also approved allocation adjustments for eligible arts and cultural organizations as outlined at the grant application information session in Fall 2016. Eligible organizations may now apply for up to $3,000 for capacity building grants, and up to $10,000 for project grants which have overall budgets valued at $50,000 or more. These adjustments are for registered not-for-profit arts and cultural organizations only.
2017 Award Recommendations
Based on the available funds and the grant applications received for 2017, Council also approved the recommendations brought forward from the Cultural Grants Evaluation Committee, awarding 68 cultural grants. This represents a total funding commitment of $321,925. Any remaining funds for 2017 may be available for new groups to make late grant applications pending Council approval.
