Organization Description:

The Vancouver Children’s Choir (“VCC”) is renowned as one of the finest of its kind in Canada, performing to a professional standard. Our vision is to uplift, inspire and enrich the lives of our choristers and our community through the beauty and joy of high quality choral music.

Since 1983, the VCC has provided young singers with the opportunity to learn the foundations of choral music, from plainsong and Renaissance polyphony to twentieth-century masterpieces and new commissions. With an average membership of 24 singers in the concert choir, the VCC pursues a varied programme of recordings, concerts and tours. The VCC has performed across Europe and North America, including in such famous spaces as Carnegie Hall in New York City, and St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The VCC has released five recordings and recorded soundtrack work for Lionsgate Productions, Disney, the Junos, NBC and Paramount Pictures, as well as provided vocals for artists such as Judith Forst, Jim Byrnes, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

Volunteer Opportunity Description:

The Treasurer sits on the Board of Directors of the Vancouver Children's Choir Choral Society. The Treasurer manages all of the Society's finances, and is responsible for the financial health and stability of the organization.

Responsibilities:

1. Financial Oversight:
- Develop and manage the annual budget.
- Manage accounts receivable.
- Review and analyze financial statements, monitor cash flow and financial performance against the budget.
- Ensure adequate recordkeeping.

2. Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare and present financial reports to the Board.
- Communicate financial information to the Board in a clear and timely manner.

3. Financial Strategy and Planning:
- Participate in strategic planning process with financial considerations.
- Advise Board on financial strategies to meet short and long-term goals.
- Assist in grant-writing and brainstorming funding opportunities.

4. Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations and tax laws.
- Implement internal controls to mitigate financial risk.

Qualifications:

- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial management.
- Experience with financial reporting and analysis.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with the Board and choir staff.

Musical and/or choral experience will be considered an asset, but is not required.
