Since our founding in 1923, the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festivals have become BC’s premier music festivals; the oldest and largest of their kind in the province, and one of the largest Music Festivals in Canada.
Every year over 4,500 music students participate across four distinct events – the Jazz Bands Festival; the Choral Festival; the Concert Band & Orchestra Festival; and the Main Festival for solo musicians and small ensembles, including piano, strings, voice, brass, woodwinds, guitar, harp and Chinese ethnic instruments.
The Festivals’ past, present and future are rooted in a common purpose: to inspire musical excellence in all participants.

Volunteer Opportunity Description:
We are seeking organized, self-assured, responsible team players to participate as Adjudicator Secretaries. As the Adjudicator Secretary, you will be the Adjudicator’s right hand as they evaluate musical performances.
You will be helping them throughout the adjudication process to set expectations with the musicians, introduce the adjudicator, ensure that students enter the class on time, that sheet music is correctly organized, and that adjudication forms and certificates are placed according to the adjudicator’s preference. It’s an important role!
Our adjudicators love the opportunity to listen to incredible musicianship at all levels for a number of different instruments.
Responsibilities:
Adjudicator Secretary Duties:
- Assist adjudicator by taking attendance, collecting and returning music, recording marks and preparing certificates
- Set up and take down of adjudicator and secretary desks
- Introduce the adjudicator at each new session and/or class
- Ensure audience members remain quiet and do not film/record or use cellphones at all during classes
