Job Description:

The Opportunity

Are you passionate about culture, the arts or museums? This is an opportunity to use your business acumen and accounting skills to make a difference at one of Canada’s most award-winning museums.
The Finance and Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day business operations of the Museum including financial reporting and analysis; and assists in the overall operation of the museum facility and information technology. Reporting to the CEO and working with the senior staff, the Finance and Accounting Manager works to strengthen the operation of the Museum.

Responsibilities:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Management
• Create and manage the organization’s approximately $3M budget in a collaborative effort involving the staff and CEO.
• Oversees the day-to-day control of accounting activities including monthly, quarterly and year-end reporting, financial reports and analysis for the CEO, Finance Committee, Board of Directors, Auditors, and others as required.
• Main liaison with independent auditors to ensure a successful year-end audit.
• Continuously review and communicate revenue, cash and expense results and projections with the CEO, the Board’s Finance and Audit Committee and staff.
• Supervise one (1) Full-Time Payroll and Accounting Coordinator.
• Monitor and report on MOVs financial health and keep on top of emerging/innovative practices to help to manage and reduce risk.
• Assist the Director of Operations & HR to manage the IT system, telephone system and other relevant contracts to ensure effectiveness and efficiency in MOV’s operations.

Planning, Management and Leadership
• Work with the CEO and other members of the senior team to undertake strategic and business planning and evaluation for the organization based on key metrics.
• Provide support to and attend meetings of the Board of Directors, Finance and Audit Committee and others as required.
• Take a leadership role in the organization.
• Deliver priorities, through operations and finance, set out in the strategic plan to 2026.
• Ability to assist frontline staff in integrating financial output into MOV accounting systems and software.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

• University degree in Business, Accounting or Finance or a combination of education and experience will be considered.
• CPA designation or working towards getting the designation preferred.
• 4 Years in senior leadership experience, preferably in a non-profit environment,
including a proven track record in budgeting and financial management, project and facilities management.
• Experience managing IT, financial software and systems.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience managing in a unionized environment.

Required Knowledge, Ability and Skills

• Strong interpersonal, leadership and management skills including a collaborative, team-oriented work style.
• Ability to effectively prioritize and organize a varied workload and schedule and manage time carefully to achieve results.
• Strong technical and IT awareness.
• Strong organizational and planning skills with an ability to set priorities and manage multiple responsibilities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to create complex organizational budgets, produce financial reports including all month-end and year-end closes, cash flows, and all financial analysis.
• Knowledge of the Sage 50 accounting software.
• Knowledge of ADP Work Force Now or similar platforms
• Knowledge of not-for-profit accounting preferred.

Compensation

• $76,440.00 – $94,640.00 (based on a 35h work week) annual salary based on experience.
• Hours: Full-Time (35 hours per week. Monday to Friday between 9:00am – 5:00pm, with some evening and weekend work required)
• The benefits package includes generous holiday time, life insurance, extended health and dental package and participation in the Municipal Pension Plan.

Remuneration:
