The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden Society of Vancouver, governing the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, is a non-profit cultural institution dedicated to fostering understanding and mutual appreciation among Vancouver’s diverse communities, with a focus on classical Chinese arts and culture. The Society operates the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, a museum and popular tourist attraction located in Vancouver’s historic Chinatown.

Job Description:
The Marketing and Communications Manager will provide leadership to the organization’s staff and oversee all aspects of the marketing and communications portfolio at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Gardens. With a proven track record of leveraging the power of existing and new platforms, this role will work closely with the entire team to develop creative approaches to grow and engage our communities and support revenue development. The successful candidate will have a creative flair, a passion for storytelling and strong marketing communications skills that will support the Garden’s strategic planning and 40th-anniversary objectives.
This position is based in our Vancouver Chinatown office, with a hybrid workplace experience during the off-season.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and execution of comprehensive marketing strategies and programs.
- Create forecasting reports for departmental spending, including media buys and operational costs.
- Track marketing metrics and conduct budget reviews to optimize ROI.
- Cultivate existing relationships, and build new relationships with media partners, contractors, community, influencers, and suppliers.
- Collaborate with internal teams and contractors to produce creative content across various platforms and support internal initiatives.
- Develop innovative communication approaches and tailored messaging to our key audiences to support philanthropy, admissions, facility rentals and other revenue generation.
- Manage digital communication platforms, including social media, email, and website content, and monitor social media channels for industry trends.
- Represent Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden at key media events, and sponsor stakeholder meetings.
- Integrate Society programs and partner messaging into marketing campaigns.
- Gather market insights to enhance outreach strategies and analyze marketing effectiveness.
- Manage all aspects of content creation, photography and copywriting for all social media.
- Handle media inquiries and coordinate press releases.
- Serve as a spokesperson for Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden at events and initiatives.
- Identify opportunities for brand campaigns, event partnerships, and community activations.
- Develop marketing program management/ delivery processes and coordinate staffing and training.
- Promote events to internal and external stakeholders through various channels.
- Perform other duties as required to meet organizational goals or as instructed by the Executive Director.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience and a proven track record of marketing, communications, and event management success.
- Proficiency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese; ability to speak and write Mandarin and/or Cantonese is required.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation abilities; vigorous attention to detail; and exceptional time and organizational management.
- Positive, collaborative approach with demonstrated management skills.
- Highly computer-literate with Google, WordPress and Adobe Creative Suite computer skills; knowledge of social media platforms and digital marketing in a non-profit setting.
- Experience with cultural communities and/or community events.
- Media relations experience is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license preferred.

Remuneration:
Salary Range: $58,000 - $75,000, commensurate with experience. Two-week vacation plus a number of paid personal days. Benefits include extended health, dental, life insurance, and LTD after three months.
