$2M Donation Establishes Sustainable Future for the Cultch
/The Cultch will receive the largest corporate donation in the organization's history, a $2 million gift from East Vancouver-based West Coast Reduction Ltd.
In recognition of the gift, The Cultch has named the restored stage at the York Theatre, which the organization operates, in honour of the local rendering facility. The deal was pending until Vancouver City Council voted last night (January 21) to amend a sign bylaw to permit name recognition on the York’s signage.
The donation will provide much needed financial stability during a time of immense change and growth for the organization. The funds raised from the naming sponsorship will support the theatre's ongoing operations.
The York Theatre, which re-opened in December 2013, will be home to a number of arts and community organizations and productions over the coming months, including PuSh Festival’s "Nanook of the North", Patrick Street Productions’ "Out of a Dream" and, and City Opera Vancouver's world premiere of "Pauline" a chamber opera with libretto by Margaret Atwood.
