Vancouver City Council to Meet On Artist Studio Laws
/The following is excerpted from a communication from the City of Vancouver.
A public hearing is scheduled for by-law amendments to remove barriers for development of artist studios in industrial zones.
The proposed by-law amendments stem from actions identified in Vancouver's new cultural infrastructure plan, Making Space for Arts and Culture, as well as the Employment Lands and Economy Review, which examines all of Vancouver’s employment sectors across the city, including office, commercial, retail, and industrial uses to address current and emerging issues. If approved, these amendments will allow for the development of new work-only artist studios in the industrial zones where this use is currently restricted.
The Public Hearing will be convened online Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 6pm. Members of the public can listen and watch the proceedings via the City's website or follow @VanCityClerk on Twitter. Speakers can participate by telephone or by providing written submissions. Registration is now open:
