New Study Quantifies Economic Value of Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums in Canada
/On May 15, the Canadian Museums Association (CMA) released Value Study of Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (GLAMs) in Canada, a study by Oxford Economics “on the value of non-profit GLAMs in Canada through a combination of quantitative value metrics and qualitative assessments of societal values.”
"In all, it is estimated that society gains nearly $8.6 billion from GLAMs' existence every year,” the study states. “That is no small contribution to Canada's economic and social prosperity. Accordingly, the preservation, promotion and development of GLAMs should be of concern not just to those of use who work in the sector, but to all Canadians."
This was the first time that a study of this scope — covering the entire GLAM sector—has been conducted in Canada. For more information and the full study, click here.
