BC Arts Council: Message from the Chair
/The BC Arts Council recently circulated a message from its chair, Susan Jackson. The message has been replicated below.
First, I’m pleased to announce two additions to the BC Arts Council. Roy Henry Vickers and Michael Murray were both appointed as members of the Council by the Honourable Lisa Beare, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture effective July 31st, 2019. Short biographies for all Council members, including Roy and Michael, are available on our website.
Thanks to recent significant provincial investments, the Council is now experiencing a record high level of funding. The result has been more grants for more artists and arts and cultural organizations. To effectively respond to and manage the obligations this increased funding represents, we’ve reorganized the BC Arts Council team at the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. We wanted to take this opportunity let you know about some new additions to the team supporting our work:
Senior Director, BC Arts Council Secretariat: We are now recruiting for this new leadership position within the organization’s management team. The Senior Director will direct the BCAC Secretariat, be a key liaison with the arts and culture sector and ensure implementation of Council’s key strategic priorities. For details please view the job profile and share with your networks.
Director, BC Arts Council Programs: Many of you will already know Kim Reid, who has been leading much of our work over the course of the past year. Please join me in officially welcoming Kim to her permanent role.
Communications Specialist: Andrew Templeton has joined the team in this new position. We are very pleased to have a dedicated resource to support this important function and enhance our outreach work.
Indigenous Community Liaison: Supported by the B.C. government’s Indigenous Youth Internship Program, Rodman Joseph will be working with the team over the next eight months to support our programs, including helping us enhance our outreach to Indigenous communities.
In addition, our pool of program officers is increasing from eight to ten to more effectively manage the different program areas and enhance our capacity to directly support artists and cultural organizations across the province.
Most importantly, the additional resources will improve our ability to support the arts and culture sector in British Columbia, work that enriches communities in every region of the province. Please visit our website to view the current staff directory.
Lastly, we are pleased to share the 2018/19 BC Arts Council Annual Report, which is now available online. The report details the Council’s many accomplishments and activities during this period, including an update on our actions to meet the priorities of our 2018-2022 Strategic Plan: New Foundations.
