More than $150,000 is available in arts and culture grants as the City of Kelowna is now accepting applications for their 2019 Arts and Culture General Operating or Project grants. Local, incorporated, non-profit organizations interested in applying can find the guidelines and applications at kelowna.ca/culture.

“Cultural grants make it possible for local organizations to build their organizations and provide unique community experiences like festivals and events that highlight our community’s arts, culture and heritage,” said Christine McWillis, cultural services manager.

General Operating Grants are extended to local arts, culture and heritage organizations which do the majority of their work in Kelowna, and demonstrate a spirit of community service in their operations.

Project grants are awarded to community organizations which provide a festival, event or project that feature arts, culture or heritage and are accessible to the public. The Project Grant is open to all non-profit organizations, not just those in the arts, culture and heritage sector.

Applicants must submit their completed application forms by Friday, November 30 at 3 p.m. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Grant funding will be confirmed for successful applicants in February 2019.

“Funding from the City of Kelowna for the Taste of Fringe was instrumental to the events success and ensuring that Kelowna Fringe can expand in a scalable and sustainable way in the future,”says Dustyn Baulkham, Executive Director of the Arts Council of the Central Okanagan and a member of the Kelowna Fringe Steering Committee.

In 2018, 23 operating and project grants representing a $163,265 investment was made in the arts, culture and heritage community. These grants are awarded on an annual basis and organizations may apply to more than one grant category.

Recipients of the 2018 Arts and Culture grants are reminded that their final reports are due November 1, 2018. The final report form can be found at kelowna.ca/culture.

In addition to the General Operating and Project grants, the City offers the Community Art Grant. This grant offers a collaborative opportunity between a professional artist and the community to create a work of art. The guidelines and application are available at kelowna.ca/culture. Intake of applications is ongoing and may be submitted at any time.
