Province of B.C. Announces Funding for Northern FanCon "Creative Corner"

B.C. Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and Minister Responsible for Labour, Shirley Bond, announced $20,000 in funding today for the "Creative Corner." Creative Corner will be a new feature of Northern FanCon, an annual film and television fan convention and entertainment expo held in Prince George.

The Creative Corner is designed to be a career-fair style function, where visitors will be able to ask questions to film industry professionals—including directors, screenwriters, sound engineers, and special effects artists. There will be presentations from guest speakers, as well as workshops led by industry experts.

British Columbia's rapidly growing film industry is one of the largest in North America, with direct spending of $2 billion in 2015-16, and supports approximately 25,000 direct and indirect jobs. The Creative Corner is intended to give visitors a broad exposure to the many career opportunities within the film industry.

"Northern FanCon continues to attract people from around B.C., showcasing the strong creative sector in British Columbia’s north. This funding for the new ‘Creative Corner’ will provide young people from northern B.C. with an opportunity to learn about careers in the growing film and television industry," said Bond.

The Creative Corner will launch at this year's Northern FanCon in Prince George, from May 5-7, 2017.
