PAARC Launches Letter Writing Campaign to Request Increased Arts and Culture Funding
/The Pacific Association of Artist Run Centres (PAARC) has launched a letter-writing campaign urging artists, cultural workers and supporters of the creative sector to write to elected officials and public servants to request an increase to funding for our sector in the 2017 provincial budget.
In a presentation to the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services as part of the committee's budget consultations earlier this fall, the Alliance's executive director Brenda Leadlay made a request on behalf of the sector for increases in funding for arts and culture in the 2017 Budget. The Alliance was encouraged to see some of these points reflected in the recommendations put forward by the Committee to the Provincial Government in its report, but there's still work to be done - and you can help by becoming an advocate.
The Alliance encourages members of the community to advocate for provincial funding for arts and culture by participating in PAARC's letter-writing campaign by December 20. PAARC has generated sample letters for distribution to MLAs, the Minister of Finance, and the Minister of Community, Sports and Cultural Development. These resources can be found here. The materials were designed to be applicable to artists and arts organizations in any discipline.
