Registration Open For 2014 Culture Days

Registration is now open for participation in this year’s BC Culture Days, taking place September 26, 27, and 28, and a series of workshops will be offered across the province for event organizers interested in knowing more about this nation-wide initiative.

Register before midnight April 30 for a chance to win a trip to the National Congress on Culture:Creating & Sustaining a Daily National Habit, May 22 and 23 in Winnipeg.

Professional and amateur artists and arts organizations are invited to be a part of BC’s largest celebration of arts, culture, and heritage. Culture Days will feature free, hands-on, interactive activities that invite the public to participate “behind-the-scenes,” to discover the world of artists, creators, historians, architects, curators, designers and other creative people in their communities.

Workshops for confirmed and potential Culture Days event organizers will be held in nine BC communities including: Williams Lake (April 2); Cranbrook (April 5); Penticton (April 9); Nanaimo (April 15); Port Moody (April 30); Terrace (May 6); Prince Rupert (May 7); Campbell River (May 14); and Skidegate (date tbc). Additional workshops will be announced as they are confirmed.

Workshop participants will learn how to register a Culture Days activity, hear about the many online resources and tools available to Culture Days organizers, connect with other activity organizers in their community, and learn how to make Culture Days a local success.

Event organizers and artists interested in taking part in the workshop in their area can contact Nazanin Shoja at 604.681.3535 (214) or culturedays@allianceforarts.com for further details.

Culture Days is a collaborative coast-to-coast-to-coast volunteer movement to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities.

With the support of a National Steering Committee and volunteer Provincial and Territorial Task Forces, thousands of activity organizers self-mobilize at the grassroots level to present and coordinate free public activities that take place throughout the country over the last weekend of September each year.

The fifth annual Culture Days weekend takes place September 26, 27, and 28, 2014. For further information and to register an event for Culture Days visit www.culturedays.ca.
