2014 Making a Scene Conference & Actors Symposium

The Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance (GVPTA) presents two major events later this month, its signature industry event, the Making a Scene Conference, and the 2014 GVPTA Actors Symposium

The theme of this year's Making a Scene, held March 27-28 at Performance Works on Granville Island, is An Ignition: A Vision for the Future of Theatre in Vancouver. Now in its 14th season, Making a Scene is a critical forum for Metro Vancouver’s professional theatre community, which will come together to reflect upon its achievements, to assess its state of affairs, and to envision its future. Everyone will have an opportunity to help develop the plan for the Future of Theatre in Vancouver.

Both days of the conference will have scheduled presentations and panels address professional development, present best practices and address the critical issues we face.

The 2014 GVPTA Actors Symposium will be held at Studio 1398 on Granville Island on March 28-29. The 2-day session for GVPTA members focuses on knowledge and skills to support theatre actors in their careers, beyond their artistic training and experience.

The symposium will include practical sessions about the business of acting, finances, acting in film and theatre, plus a movement workshop and discussions about working in different media. Each actor will have the opportunity to be part of an audition workshop and work with some of Vancouver’s leading directors, including Gillian Barber, Stephen Drover, Katrina Dunn, Jane Heyman, Max Reimer, and Kim Selody. The symposium will also include panel discussions on theatre and film.
