Call for Artists Description:

Organization Description:

St. Andrew’s-Wesley is an open-hearted, open-minded, inclusive and affirming church that walks in the path of Jesus because we long for greater peace, love and justice in the world. We believe that art connects us– from sidewalk chalk to a jazz concert, creative expression gives us a glimpse of how others walk through the world, and why. Art, in all its forms, connects us more deeply to the Divine. We make space for divergent voices to engage our hearts and minds through art. When we do, it’s beautiful to notice just how much our community has to say. Art provides an expressive language for human beings to experience awe, wonder, loss, love, suffering, and mystery. Artists inspire and delight, feed our souls and imaginations, bring inequities to light, and challenge political systems. We have a deep gratitude for their creativity and have made art one of our core values to actively support their work.

Call for Artists Description:

- St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church is excited to invite artists from the Metro Vancouver area to submit proposals for one public-facing art installation that will engage and inspire our community.

We are seeking a dynamic and diverse artist to create a unique installation that engages the public and reflects the values and causes we hold dear. This installation will be displayed in outdoor, public-facing spaces, encouraging thought-provoking interaction and dialogue with the community.

- We are particularly interested in art that engages with the following important social issues: Reconciliation, 2SLGBTQIA+ rights and inclusion, the housing crisis, safe drug supply and harm reduction, welcoming and supporting refugees and newcomers, and climate action and sustainability.

- The installation will be prominently displayed outside St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church (corner of Burrard St. & Nelson St.), with high visibility in the West End of Vancouver. We would love to see installations that engage the public in meaningful ways—whether through interaction, participation, or prompts for reflective moments.

- We look forward to creating opportunities for thoughtful engagement with the local community, and to contribute to the ongoing dialogue around justice, social change, and the power of art.

Qualifications/Eligibility:

- We encourage artists of all backgrounds to apply, especially folks from marginalized and underrepresented communities. We welcome applications from artists working in all mediums.
