Call for Artists Description:
The District of West Vancouver invites artists from the Lower Mainland and Sea to Sky Corridor to submit a proposal for a painted mural at the Ambleside Skateboard Park in West Vancouver.
Ambleside Skateboard Park is a highly visible location along the Ambleside waterfront with many users of the skateboard park as well as year-round visitors to the park and beach. The District is seeking artists who can create a vibrant mural that reflects the culture of the skateboard park and its beautiful natural setting. The new mural should demonstrate imagination, originality and reflect the community spirit and diversity of West Vancouver as well as the geography from the mountains to the sea, natural elements and/or outdoor experiences. By transforming the space into a welcoming area, the art mural will promote community identity and a sense of belonging for all.
The successful artist or artist team will be required to hold a workshop with users of the skateboard park to develop a creative vision for the mural with input from the community. The final design for the painted mural will be submitted by the artist to an advisory panel for final approval.

Fees/Compensation:
The total budget for this project is $15,000 encompassing all expenses related to the mural creation, including artist fees, draft drawings, installation costs (such as paint supplies, labour, and equipment), artist administration costs, insurance, Maintenance Plan, and contingency.
The budget estimates an approximate artist fee of 7,500, to be adjusted accounting for variable factors such as community engagement and complexity of design. The selected artist/team will create a finalized, detailed design and detailed budget for approval by the Selection Panel.
The District will be responsible for site preparation, including wall cleaning and primer.
