Call for Artists Description:

Sarah McLachlan School of Music (SoM) is looking for Guest Artists to connect with the youth in our community!

We are pleased to announce opportunities for artists to connect with and inspire young people in the East Vancouver community.

We are looking for a diverse range of artists and styles of music that will enrich and expand our students' horizons. As these sessions are educational, we are looking for musicians who can engage with our students and share some of their experience as artists, talk about their instruments, or personal journeys, or how they make music as a band. Experience working with youth is helpful but not essential. Competitive honorariums provided for all artists.

The goal of Sarah McLachlan School of Music (SoM) is to build inclusive and barrier-free communities of musical learning where children and youth find their voice. All of SoM’s programs are offered at no cost to students and families.

We have two Guest Artist program opportunities at SoM: Guest Artist Student Workshops and Guest Artist Concert Series.

Our Guest Artist Student Workshop day includes 3 one-hour workshops during our after-school music program for groups of 12-25 students ranging in ages from 8-18. Mon, Tues, Wed or Thurs. Timeline runs from 3:00 pm -7:30 pm.

Our Guest Artist Concert Series happens on a few Friday afternoons throughout the year and tend to be very intergenerational with young kids to seniors in attendance. Concerts are interactive with educational and participatory elements. Timeline runs from 12:00-4:00 pm.

We are currently taking proposals for our 2025/2026 school year. We will be reviewing applications as they come in between now and December and will get back to you in January 2025.

Fees/Compensation:

Guest Artists are paid based on a fixed rate honorarium of $300 per person (@ 3-4 hour call) to a maximum of $1200 per event (+ GST where applicable).
