Every year, we offer a thrilling season of performing arts presentations in our Studio Theatre, curated exhibitions in the Art Gallery at Evergreen, and arts education programs in a variety of disciplines.

Job Description:

We are seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and dynamic individual to join our team as a Summer Art Camp Instructor. The art camp instructor will create a lively and enjoyable atmosphere that encourages children to explore their creativity. They will guide a wide range of arts and crafts activities, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media. In addition to preparing materials and teaching techniques, the instructor will ensure a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment where campers feel free to express themselves artistically. For the first week, the art instructor will collaborate with an educator to complete the required camp training in building a lesson plan, classroom management, supply preparations, and safety checks.

Responsibilities:

Plan and Prepare: Develop and organize age-appropriate art activities, ensuring that materials and tools are ready for use each day.
Lead Art Projects: Guide campers in a variety of creative projects, such as painting, drawing, clay modelling, paper crafts, and more, adapting instructions to their skill levels.
Foster Creativity: Encourage campers to experiment with different mediums and express themselves in unique ways.
Maintain a Safe Environment: Ensure that all activities are safe and that campers use art supplies responsibly.
Supervise Campers: Maintain positive discipline and ensure the emotional and physical safety of all campers under your supervision.
Provide Individual Attention: Offer one-on-one guidance to campers who need extra support or encouragement.
Maintain Cleanliness: Keep the art area clean and organized, including cleaning brushes, tools, and workspaces after activities.
Support Camp Culture: Actively engage with other camp staff to promote a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment.
Communicate with Parents: Update parents on their child’s progress and share highlights of art activities through camp newsletters or individual communication.

Qualifications:

Experience in Art: Proven experience with various art techniques, mediums, and creative expression.
Experience in Teaching/Working with Children: Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting is preferred.
Passion for Creativity: Strong enthusiasm for art and creativity, with the ability to inspire and encourage campers of all ages.
Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with children, fellow staff, and parents.
Team Player: Ability to work effectively within a team and maintain a positive attitude.
First Aid/CPR Certification: Preferred, or the willingness to obtain before camp begins.
Background Check: Must pass a background check to ensure the safety of all campers.
This position is funded by Canada Summer Jobs, which restricts candidates to those legally entitled to work in Canada and be between the ages of 15 to 30 years.

Working towards a Degree in Fine Arts, Education, or a related field.
Experience in leading art classes or workshops for children.
Familiarity with child development and how to engage children in creative activities.
Working Conditions:
This is a seasonal, full-time position during the summer months.
Hours typically align with camp schedules, which may include mornings and afternoons.
Work will take place in a camp environment, often outdoors or in a dedicated art room.
Must be able to attend staff training prior to the start of camp.
