Organization Description:

The Vancouver Children’s Choir (“VCC”) is renowned as one of the finest of its kind in Canada, performing to a professional standard. Our vision is to uplift, inspire and enrich the lives of our choristers and our community through the beauty and joy of high quality choral music.

Since 1983, the VCC has provided young singers with the opportunity to learn the foundations of choral music, from plainsong and Renaissance polyphony to twentieth-century masterpieces and new commissions. With an average membership of 24 singers in the concert choir, the VCC pursues a varied programme of recordings, concerts and tours. The VCC has performed across Europe and North America, including in such famous spaces as Carnegie Hall in New York City, and St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The VCC has released five recordings and recorded soundtrack work for Lionsgate Productions, Disney, the Junos, NBC and Paramount Pictures, as well as provided vocals for artists such as Judith Forst, Jim Byrnes, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors, the Choir Coordinator works closely with the Artistic Director to help plan and run the choir’s activities, including auditions, weekly rehearsals, concerts, retreats and tours.

Responsibilities:

1. Monitor VCC Gmail account and social media:
(a) Respond to messages as appropriate, (i.e. forward, reply on behalf of VCC, delete, or archive);
(b) Label and organize emails, maintain categories.

2. Communicate with parents and choristers:
(a) Send out weekly reminder emails prior to weekly rehearsals;
(b) Send out welcome packages at beginning of year and collect waivers and other documents from families;
(c) Coordinate attendance for community performances as necessary;
(d) Follow up with parents re: unexcused absences, late pickups, etc.

3. Attend and assist at rehearsals, concerts, auditions, and special events:
(a) Check with Artistic Director for any last minute communications to families;
(b) Monitor pick up and drop off and ensure children are safe;
(c) Be available for parent questions.

4. Report to Vice Chair of Board on activities on a monthly basis.

5. Perform administrative tasks:
(a) Receive chorister payments, issue receipts, and update Treasurer;
(b) Coordinate auditions with Artistic Director;
(c) Maintain chorister database;
(d) Assist Uniform Coordinator with distributing and retrieving chorister uniforms;

6. Coordinate volunteers and events:
(a) Coordinate parent and alumni volunteers for concerts and other special events;
(b) Manage front and back of house at concerts.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be responsible, reliable and highly organized, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. In addition, we are looking for someone who:

- Is proficient at Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Instagram, Facebook, and Whatsapp;
- Enjoys working with children;
- Has patience and a sense of humour;
- Is able to attend all evening rehearsals (rehearsals are in downtown Vancouver, close to the Skytrain, on Wednesday evenings from 6-8:30 pm), concerts and other choir activities; and
- Can be highly responsive to parent emails and concerns.

Musical training and choral experience will be considered an asset, but is not required.

The successful candidate must have, or be willing to obtain a CRRP criminal record check.
