Job Description:
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Production Manager is a management contract within the company that requires a self-motivated, organized individual with leadership skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic and creative work environment. Most work is done virtually – we do not maintain year-round office space.
On-site availability required during technical theatre hours and performances (February, June, August 2025). This position can be scaled based on availability of the successful candidate and has potential to grow into a part-time, continuing contract.
Responsibilities:
Duties of the Production Manager include but are not limited to:
• Production Administration
• Supervision of all production contractors
• Management of production budgets (Mainstage, Studio Production, Opera Under the Stars) to ensure effective cost management.
• Hiring of crew (Stage Management, Lighting, Costumes, Makeup etc)
• Creation and management of all production schedules
• Onsite supervision of load in and load out, including managing all packing lists and directing volunteers.
• Coordinating zoom / in-person production meetings with creative and technical teams as needed (monthly prior to major events, daily / weekly as needed in immediate leadup to performances)
• Contracting stage management.
• Supervision of technical rehearsals and work calls in cooperation with the Managing Director.
• Supervision and arrangement of logistics for productions and special events
• Ongoing enforcement of health and safety regulations, including Fire Safety Plan, fire code and building code requirements.
• Upholding Opera Kelowna’s values and policies, including Work Environment, Equity and Inclusion, and Recruitment policies
Qualifications:
• A university or college degree in theatre production or equivalent training.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in technical theatre production
• Proven experience producing accurate show costing in a theatrical environment.
• An understanding of current production and technical practices within theatre including sound, lighting, projection and set construction.
• Knowledge and understanding of Canadian Actor’s Equity DOT contract guidelines
• Experience supervising contractors and volunteers
• Budgeting experience.
• Knowledge of Google workplace suite tools and / or Microsoft Excel and Word
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a commitment to collaboration.
