Tap Dance Society Buys Its Own Home!

Dreams do come true, and with a help from Vancouver Tap Dance Society (VTDS) board and members, Building Steering Committee, staff,  friends, a business community that trusted enough to believe in the dream, the Vancouver Tap Dance Society is bursting with pride to declare: “There’s no place like home.”

Seven months ago they found themselves at a crossroads. The building, at 2775 East Hastings Street, that had been their home for 12 years was up for sale.

This week VTDS announced "we bought it". No other building would do – this was the building that had become a tap hub for the community to enjoy; a place where lack of money did not close a door; a place where no boundaries were set on a burning desire to learn and to dream of taking a place among the world’s best dancers.

VTDS imagined a home that would nurture a tap legacy. They imagined the limitless possibilities of owning a space dedicated to tap dancers and nothing less than making that dream come true would do.  And yes, the magic wand helped.

The VTDS building is a professional dance facility that consists of two large side by side spaces with wooden floors, wall to wall mirrors, dance barre and professional sound equipment.
