Phoenix Chamber Choir Announces New Artistic Director
/Following the 2011-2012 season Phoenix embarked upon an international search for a new Artistic Director, searching for that single person to lead us into the 2012-2013 season and beyond. We were looking for an innately musical soul, with a compelling vision for our organization – someone with formidable drive, singular talent, and a deeply passionate heart.
The applicant pool was excellent, comprised of talented musicians from both far away and right here in Vancouver. Phoenix is thrilled to have chosen an outstanding conductor from among a select handful of top-tier shortlisted candidates. We found exactly the person we were looking for.
The Phoenix Chamber Choir is pleased to announce our new conductor and artistic director:
Dr. Graeme Langager
With a career spanning four degrees (including a Doctorate in Conducting from the prestigious Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and a degree in Jazz Studies from our very own Capilano College), and 18 years of experience directing community choirs and collegiate choral ensembles, Graeme Langager brings a wealth of experience, vibrant leadership style, and an enthusiasm for performing the finest choral repertoire with nuance, brilliance, sensitivity, and heart.
Langager also serves as UBC’s Director of Choirs. He returned to Canada in 2009 to lead the UBC choral program after having taught and studied in the United States for fifteen years. He has conducted in some of the finest venues in North America and across Europe, including St. Peter’s in Rome, Notre Dame in Paris, and Stefansdom in Vienna.
"I am thrilled to be appointed as Phoenix’s new Artistic Director," said Graeme, "and am eager to begin my work with this amazing group of talented individuals. Phoenix has a long tradition of excellence, and I am honoured to be joining them as conductor."
Phoenix is truly overjoyed to welcome Graeme to our family. He has a stellar 2012-2013 season planned we are very excited to share with you.
