Peter Birnie Leaves the Vancouver Sun
/"I will be leaving the Sun on Friday. Rest assured, it is an amicable parting of the ways and as I move on to “explore opportunities on the InterWebs” and depart from the best job I ever had" said Peter in a surprise announcement by email on Tuesday.
The Arts & Life editor Maggie Langrick made this statement on the matter, “The Vancouver Sun will continue to have a regular theatre critic and plans to maintain the same level of coverage of the local theatre scene that we have had in recent years. We are now looking at candidates for the role, and hope to introduce our choice to our readers in the summer. In the meantime, we have access to some strong freelance writers who we are confident will be able to see us through the transition without a hitch.”
She also added, “In his 23 years with the Vancouver Sun, Peter Birnie has become an authoritative voice in the city’s theatre community, respected by his peers and well-loved by readers. He has been an invaluable asset to our newsroom, and while we wish him much happiness and the best of luck in his future endeavours, we are also sad to see him go.”
The Alliance for Arts and Culture would like to thank Peter for his long standing and continuing contributions to the arts community and wish him all the best.
