Nigel Prince named new Executive Director of the Contemporary Art Gallery

The Contemporary Art Gallery is excited to announce the appointment of Nigel Prince as its new Executive Director.

Nigel Prince will leave his position as Curator at Ikon Gallery in Birmingham, UK to lead the CAG, directing all its programming and reframing the Gallery’s local, national and international profile. The Gallery’s Board of Directors has sought a candidate with a strong creative vision and one who can continue to propel the CAG onto a global platform.

Prince shares the CAG’s long term goal to collaborate with other organizations from a local through to international level and as Executive Director can offer the CAG access to a world-wide network of contemporary art institutions. Prince, who will assume his new role on January 17, 2011, has already launched many Canadian artists on to an international platform, in particular Marcel Dzama and Vancouver-based artists Steven Shearer, and Roy Arden. He has collaborated with The Power Plant in Toronto, has worked with institutions as diverse as the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, Germany, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam, Holland, the Venice Biennale and the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group comprising players from the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
