New Director for Canada Council's Arts Disciplines Division

Roger Gaudet has been selected as the new Director, Arts Disciplines Division at the Canada Council for the Arts, effective October 15, 2013. 

Gaudet has been Head of the Theatre Section at the Canada Council since 2005. In this capacity he has collaborated closely with the theatre community in leading significant change in the design of operating funding programs at Council and has represented the Council in numerous public settings. Prior to this, he served as a Senior Policy Analyst within the Arts Policy Branch at the Department of Canadian Heritage where he worked on a national program of support for presenters in all arts disciplines

From 1993 to 2001, Gaudet served as a Theatre Officer at the Canada Council, following several years in theatre companies in Vancouver, Montreal and Sherbrooke. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Victoria (BC) and is a graduate of the Directing Program of the National Theatre School of Canada (Montreal).

Gaudet is replacing Anne Valois who is leaving after 27 years at Council, the last three as Director of Arts Disciplines. The Council will begin the search for a new Head of Theatre shortly.
