Marcuse Elected Senior Fellow of Ashoka

Judith Marcuse, a fellow with Simon Fraser University’s Centre for Dialogue and the artistic producer of Judith Marcuse Projects, has been elected as a senior fellow of Ashoka International.

Ms. Marcuse’s career spans more than 40 years as a dancer, choreographer, director, producer, teacher, writer and lecturer. She has been awarded the Chalmers and Lee awards in choreography.

She is among the first Canadian artists to be honoured by Ashoka International. As a senior fellow of the organization, Marcuse joins a list of 36 Canadians who have been elected during the last 10 years.

“This appointment will assist in my ability to share knowledge and best practices with other ‘change-agents’ around the world,” said Marcuse. “It will help to open doors and support my continuing work with the International Centre of Art for Social Change (ICASC).”

Established by Judith Marcuse Projects and SFU, ICASC supports art for social change in communities globally. ICASC integrates community engagement in art and social change, academic research and training, as well as professional development and global networking.

Ashoka, founded in 1980, is a global association of the world’s leading social entrepreneurs and a collaboration of individuals with system-changing solutions for the world’s most urgent social problems.

Beginning in 1981, with the first Ashoka fellows elected in India, the organization now boasts more than 2,700 fellows in 70 countries.
