Evergreen Cultural Centre announces new Visual Arts Manager
/COQUITLAM – The Evergreen Cultural Centre announce the appointment of Astrid Heyerdahl as the new Visual Arts Manager. Astrid joined the staff last week and is responsible for the development and implementation of all visual arts programs at Evergreen, including administrative and curatorial duties in the Art Gallery and art education programs, workshops and tours.
“We are extremely excited to have Astrid Heyerdahl onboard at the Evergreen Cultural Centre,” says Jon-Paul Walden, Evergreen’s Executive Director. “The very dynamic and colorful Visual Arts Department will continue to thrive under Astrid and exhibit even more and exciting new programming.”
Astrid originally hails from Toronto where she worked at the Harbourfront Centre creating innovative and interdisciplinary school programming. She has been involved with several cultural institutions and organizations in educational and curatorial capacities such as Forest City Gallery in London, ON; Museum London; the Peggy Guggenheim Foundation in Venice, Italy; the Justina M. Barnicke Gallery at the University of Toronto; and the North Vancouver Community Arts Council. Astrid is also the treasurer of the board of Presentation House Theatre, a professional theatre in North Vancouver.
Astrid has her Honours B.A. in Visual Arts from the University of Western Ontario, her Masters of Art History from the University of Toronto and her Masters of Education, specializing in museum and gallery education, from York University. Her strong understanding of current pedagogy and art theory make her a great addition to Evergreen.
“I am thrilled to be at the ECC,” says Astrid during a break from a morning school tour. “The Art Gallery at Evergreen is a fantastic space with so much potential and such a strong connection to arts education in the community. I am very much looking forward to connecting with teachers and educators in the Tri-Cities and the greater Vancouver area.”
