ArtsFACT to Donate $500,000 to Vancouver Arts Community

VANCOUVER (October 12, 2010) – In its ongoing effort to nurture talent and support artists with diverse skills, the Arts Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent (ArtsFACT) is donating more than $500,000 to the Vancouver arts community.

Grants of up to $10,000 will be available to not-for-profit arts organizations within the Vancouver area.  In addition, there will be four ‘legacy’ grants of $50,000, to be awarded in each of the major arts disciplines – theatre, dance, music and visual arts.

“With the recent provincial government funding cuts to arts programs throughout Vancouver, local artists are starved for support,” said James Stuart, Chairman of ArtsFACT and Vice-President and General Manager of CHUM Radio stations 103.5 QM/FM, The Beat 94.5 FM, TEAM 1410 and TEAM 1040 in Vancouver.  “The radio stations are proud to support this important initiative. The money will address artists’ immediate needs and stimulate growth and enthusiasm within the Vancouver arts community.”

ArtsFACT is a cultural initiative created by 103.5 QM/FM, now operated by CHUM Radio.  Since its inception in 1993, ArtsFACT has already donated nearly $1 million to the Vancouver arts community.

“We recognize the challenges of local artists and want them to know we support and encourage their creativity, vitality and contribution to Vancouver,” said Chris Gordon, President, CHUM Radio.  “We are strong believers in home-grown talent, and the arts community of Vancouver is something of which we are very proud.”

Application forms and additional details can be found here .  The deadline for applications is November 12, 2010.  Grants will be awarded in early 2011.

CHUM Radio owns and operates 34 radio stations in 16 markets throughout Canada, including four stations in Vancouver: 103.5 QM/FM, The Beat, TEAM 1040 and TEAM 1410.
