Celebrating Black History Month

Please join us in celebrating Black History Month, a time to acknowledge and applaud the contributions and achievements of Black Canadians throughout history. This observance is an opportunity to educate and raise awareness about the rich cultural heritage of Black Canadians and their impact on the nation’s history, economy, and society.

Black Canadians have made a significant impact on Canadian music, dance, literature, and the arts, and have helped to shape the nation’s cultural identity. 

We hope that you will enjoy the many BIPOC events we rounded up for you in this week's newsletter. We are especially excited for the upcoming Saul Williams / Moor Mother / Irreversible Entanglements, a collaborative concert that interweaves Afrofuturist currents within a stunning continuum of Black music. 

Our Executive Director, Rainbow Robert, has a longstanding professional relationship with Moor Mother and Irreversible Entanglements, and we are particularly excited about this concert at the Alliance. We applaud Jarrett Martineau for these brilliant programming choices at the Chan Centre. 

Whether through cultural celebrations, educational events, or simply by taking the time to learn more about the history of Black Canadians, this month provides an opportunity for us to come together and acknowledge the significant impact that Black people have had on our history, art and culture.
