Ukrainian Canadian Advocacy Group Announces Exhibit Benefitting Ukrainian Youth
/The following is excerpted from the Ukrainian Canadian Advocacy Group.
“War in Living Colour” is a one-day pop-exhibit of Ukrainian wartime illustrations that creates a unique opportunity to learn about the experience of war through the lens of artists directly impacted by Russia’s full scale invasion. Exploring the themes of resistance, evacuation, children during war, daily life in bomb shelters and under shelling, among others, this collection reflects the illustrators’ direct experience of threat, anger, fear and pride. It is a unique and penetrating way to let Ukrainians have their own say about the war.
All posters featured in the exhibition were created by Ukrainian illustrators belonging to the Kyiv-based Pictoric Illustrators Club, a proactive community of Ukrainian illustrators, graphic designers, and artists founded in 2014 by Olena Staranchuk, Oleh Gryshchenko, and Anna Sarvira.
The works of the members reflect current trends in graphic arts while being distinct by a unique vision and extraordinary artistic style. Pictoric’s artworks have been exhibited across Europe and Asia and several pieces have been acquired by the Library of Congress of the United States.
The exhibit will be held at ALSO the Kent gallery on July 27. The gallery will be open for leisurely viewings between 12PM and 5PM. A closing reception will be held in the evening, with doors opening at 5:30PM. Tickets for the reception may be purchased at the following link.
All proceeds will go towards supporting a rehabilitation program for Ukrainian kids who lost their parents in the war.
