GVPTA Releases Spring 2021 COVID-19 Impact Report
/The following is excerpted from a communication issued by GVPTA.
GVPTA has released its Spring 2021 report on COVID-19's impact on the arts and culture sector across British Columbia, through the GVPTA COVID-19 B.C. Arts & Culture Impact Survey.
As part of a data collection strategy, GVPTA released two previous reports based on surveys that were issued province-wide, and across artistic disciplines. The first was shared in June 2020, followed by another in December 2020. The Spring 2021 edition is downloadable below.
Our sector has continued to be challenged by the effects of the pandemic – not only within the work of creating, presenting, and preserving arts, culture, and heritage, but also in the personal lives of those who make up our community.
While overall, our community is slightly more optimistic today about our sector's ability to recover in comparison with what we saw five months ago, there continue to be many individuals and organizations who are unable to access relief funds or other kinds of support.
We must also ensure the mental health and wellbeing of our community are addressed, as stress and anxiety continue to be very high and relationships with family, friends, and work colleagues have been negatively affected.
As we look towards recovery, organizations, funders, policy makers, and all of us who are part of the cultural community have an opportunity and responsibility to consciously decide what we want our sector to look like and to take action.
