Engage with Creative Leaders at Coquitlam’s Cultural Summit

Now in its second year, the 2019 Summit launches with an exciting new Arts Night Social on Friday, Nov. 8, 7 – 9 p.m. at Place des Arts. Showcasing dynamic live performances, artist dialogue and delicious food, the Arts Night Social will open up conversation and stimulate ideas before the full-day Summit on Saturday, Nov. 9, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Evergreen Cultural Centre. The Summit will include two keynote addresses, roundtable talks and immersive live arts experiences designed to explore current trends, ideas and themes in the arts, culture and heritage sectors.
Keynote Speakers Highlights
Brenda Leadlay // Executive Director for BC Alliance for Arts + Culture
Brenda's keynote address will explore the importance of creativity, wellness and the arts, including the potential positive impacts creativity can have for the arts, our health and well-being, and society as a whole.Kim Senklip Harvey // Proud Syilx, Tshilqot'in, Ktunaxa and Dakelh Nations womxn and Fire Creator (director/playwright/actor/community member)
Through storytelling, Kim will explore themes of indigenous engagement, benefits of knowledge sharing, the new relationships needed between indigenous and settler peoples, and how we can use arts, culture and heritage to evolve our relationships.
Roundtable speaker highlights include:
Kevin Huang // Executive Director of the hua foundation
Kevin will share his personal story of reconnecting to his cultural heritage though community-building work in Vancouver's Chinatown.
Marie Lopes // Arts, Culture & Engagement Coordinator for the Vancouver Board of Parks & Recreation
Marie will discuss the Vancouver Park Board Fieldhouse Studio Project, which transformed more than 20 former caretaker cottages into studio spaces for community-engaged artists.Jessi Fowlis // Youth Engagement and Marketing Assistance for Evergreen Cultural Centre
Jessi's talk will explore diversity, accessibility and modern community building in the arts. She'll discuss the powerful act of presenting and welcoming 'otherness' and the importance of providing open and inclusive spaces.
Tickets
Tickets for the event are $25 per person and include admission to both the Arts Night Social and the Cultural Summit, refreshments on both days, as well as lunch during the Summit. Tickets are available through Evergreen Cultural Centre or via a direct link at www.coquitlam.ca/culturalsummit. Tickets will be available for purchase until Nov. 7 at 5 p.m.
