BC Alliance Co-Presents "Exploring Diversity" Panel on Culture, Ethnicity and Identity
/The field of arts opens spaces for the exploration of diversity with different perspectives claiming inclusion as an intrinsic value. Sharing ideas that bring to light both professional and personal experiences, five artists give examples of leadership, best practices, and future work that needs to be undertaken in the field.
Join us on October 22 at The Reach Gallery Museum in Abbotsford as our five panelists navigate through a conversation of arts as an all-encompassing field of work that can shed light on experiences of diversity.
Panelists include:
ALYSSA AMARSHI: Alyssa’s vision as a second-generation immigrant and woman of colour is to create work and discussion around the issues of community, race, gender, and mental health.
SUVI BAINS: As a photographer and an expressive art therapist, Suvi’s work provokes empathy, cultural appreciation, understanding, and cross-cultural reconciliations.
SHERLOCK CHEN: An international traveling queer artist, Sherlock’s artistic practice focuses on archiving the locational identities through the body and its surrounding environment.
JUNIE DÉSIL: Junie Désil is a Haitian/Canadian poet who has performed at various literary events and festivals. Her work has appeared in Room Magazine and PRISM International.
JONNY WILLIAMS: Jonny is Stó:lō from the Cheam First Nation. As a self-taught artist, he began carving 18 years ago and has always enjoyed drawing since he could hold a pencil.
