Time is Running Out to Register for Unrestricted
/Unrestricted, our annual conference presented in collaboration with the Greater Vancouver Professional Theatre Alliance, takes place next week, June 13-14 in Vancouver — and you've only got until Monday, June 11, to register. Here's a look at some of the unmissable programming on offer.
Alongside the GVPTA, we've programmed Unrestricted in the spirit of decolonization. Cree-Saulteaux theatre icon Margo Kane, recipient of the Order of Canada, will welcome delegates alongside the Full Circle Ensemble and her advisors in a Gathering of All Nations, as well as leading a closing ceremony for the conference at the end of the second day. Don't miss this opportunity to be guided through a unique, reflective experience by one of Canada's foremost artists.
This leads into our all-delegates session emphasizing the value of collaboration. Collaborations Across Sectors highlights voices including Creative BC CEO Prem Gill, Siminovitch Prize-winning theatre artist Marcus Youssef, and Sarah Pocklington of the First Peoples' Cultural Council, under the skillful moderation of digital producer Hanna Cho. These experts will share their triumphs, setbacks and advice from the front lines of cross-sectoral collaboration.
Another panel discussion to look forward to is the June 14 breakout session, From Me to We: Women in the Arts. This panel discussion moderated by Joyce Rosario opens space to process this political moment and is inspired by #TimesUp, a movement which covers everything from pay disparity to discrimination to sexual harassment. Expect frank and thoughtful discussion from theatre artist Kim Senklip Harvey, writer and activist Cicely Blain, and artist and community organizer Jamie Smith.
These are just a few of the sessions on offer at this year's conference. Check out the schedule-at-a-glance here for more info on what you can expect at Unrestricted.
