Penticton City Council Restores Standing Heritage and Museum Committee
/Penticton City Council voted to restore the Heritage and Museum Committee to standing status in December. The committee had been reduced to ad hoc status in May, and was only convened for special tasks.
Members of the committee asked to be reinstated in light of BC Arts Council rules that made a $20,000 grant reliant on the existence of a standing committee, which operates differently from the ad hoc committee. The re-establishment of the standing committee also allows the committee to take on tasks like lobbying for national heritage site status for sites like Leir House.
The motion to restore the committee took four votes to pass.
