Canadian Heritage Matches Over $1 Million in Funding Raised by Vancouver Opera

On May 12, the Ministry of Canadian Heritage announced that it would invest $1,077,694 in the Vancouver Opera Foundation. These funds match an identical amount raised by the Opera as part of its own funding efforts. The Hon. Dr. Hedy Fry (MP, Vancouver Centre) made the announcement on behalf of the Hon. Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage on Friday.
The Government of Canada provides this funding to the Vancouver Opera Foundation as part of a matching program to complement existing fundraising efforts of Vancouver Opera. Matching programs like the Endowment Incentives component of the Canada Cultural Investment Fund encourage Canadians across the country to donate to professional arts organizations, so that future generations can be exposed to a variety of artistic and cultural performances.
"I am delighted to see support for this program," commented Dr. Fry. "Our Government's matching of funds from local partners and businesses to the Vancouver Opera Foundation's endowment fund will allow Vancouver Opera to continue to offer wonderful performances for residents and visitors [...] at the Vancouver Playhouse, and at venues across the city."
