On December 13, the City of Vancouver approved its 2018 budget, including an increase of $580,000 to arts and culture funding. The BC Alliance for Arts + Culture, in partnership with Arts and Culture Policy Council, previously sent a letter in support of the increased investment, signed by nearly 200 members of Vancouver's arts and culture community.

Changes to the draft budget upon its approval included an increase in property tax, $550,000 of which will be used to support a bid for Chinatown to be named a UNESCO heritage site and support "Chinatown Historic Discrimination programming."
