Open Letter to the Jessies

An open letter from members of the community to the board of directors of the Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards focuses on the issue of a lack of diversity among Jessie nominees and recipients. 

The letter, issued on July 22 and signed by over 150 members of the community, urges the board of the Jessies to work with the theatre community "to move the Vancouver theatre ecology toward a more inclusive and representative future."

The Jessie Board has responded, identifying their shared concern and their “full and enthusiastic desire to enter into a dialogue about these issues.” Andrea Loewen, board president, invites emails from those interested in being kept informed of public dialogues, who have specific concerns or ideas, or who wish to inquire about positions on their board.
