Touchstones Nelson Receives National Award for Upcoming Exhibition
/Touchstones Nelson Museum of Art and History is among the award recipients recently recognized by the Canadian Museums Association (CMA) for outstanding achievements in our country's museum sector.
The Award of Outstanding Achievement in Exhibitions for museums with less than $1 million annual operating budgets goes to an upcoming exhibition at Touchstones titled "Roll on Columbia", which has not yet been shown in Nelson. The multi-format exhibit about the Columbia River Treaty was shown at a conference in Spokane last fall, and will be mounted at Touchstones Nelson in the fall of 2015. Touchstones’ executive director Leah Best initiated and oversaw the project and enlisted two local guest curators, writer Eileen Delahanty Pearkes and visual artist Deb Thompson.
The CMA is the national organization for the advancement of the Canadian museum sector, representing Canadian museum professionals both within Canada and internationally. The CMA works for the recognition, growth, and stability of the sector.
A total of 15 awards and two internships for emerging museum professionals were presented during a special Awards Ceremony at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel in April.
