"On The Map: Arts & Health in BC" Final Report and Map Now Available
/When “art” and “health” collide the resulting possibilities are almost endless. In hospitals, classrooms, community centres, parks and cultural spaces, more and more British Columbians are embracing the notion that the arts have a role to play in health, healing and wellbeing.
In the Fall of 2014, Arts Health BC launched On The Map: Arts & Health in BC, a province-wide survey to learn more about arts and health programming in BC and coalesce a more complete picture of this emerging and growing sector.
The project wrapped in April with the release of the OTM final report and an online map plotting arts & health initiatives across the province. The report includes background information on arts & health, a summary of the OTM survey methodology, results of the survey including information on the geographic location of arts & health initiatives in BC, art modalities employed, funding, facilitators, frameworks and paradigms, motivations and challenges, and a discussion of next steps. It also includes a directory of the participating initiatives. Although the survey is now closed, it is not too late for BC-based arts & health initiatives to be added to the online map - profile summaries can be submitted online at: www.artshealthbc.ca/on-the-map.)
The OTM project findings will be used by Arts Health BC and other stakeholders, to facilitate knowledge sharing and foster relationship development between organizations and individuals with a shared passion arts & health. As the OTM project illustrates, the BC stage is set to maintain, expand and create new opportunities for British Columbians to connect with the arts, for the health of it!
