Vancouver Public Library Offers Free Space to Artists for Culture Days
/After the success of last year’s Culture Days at the Library program, six branches of the Vancouver Public Library (VPL) are making free spaces available again to artists looking for venues in which to present their BC Culture Days activities on September 25 and 26, 2015.
“We are very pleased to be partnering again with BC Culture Days this year. Culture Days provides a great opportunity for artists and arts groups to connect with new and diverse audiences in their community,” says Kirsty Elmslie, Neighbourhood Services Manager at the VPL.
Culture Days is a collaborative coast-to-coast-to-coast movement designed to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities. Culture Days events feature free, hands-on, interactive activities that invite the public to participate “behind the scenes” and to discover the world of artists, creators, historians, architects, curators, and designers at work.
“It was a great pleasure working with the Champlain Heights library team and I appreciated their fantastic support and time spent on this event,” said Elena Zhukova, visual artist and 2014 Culture Days at the Library participant.
Vancouver-based artists and arts organizations wishing to present a Culture Days activity at a local library can apply now to BC Culture Days for use of space at one of the participating VPL branches:
- Champlain Heights
- Hastings
- Kitsilano
- Mount Pleasant
- Oakridge
- Renfrew
Available rooms vary in capacity from 30 to 50 participants.
Culture Days @ the Vancouver Public Library, administered by BC Culture Days, cannot provide any financial assistance for supplies or equipment, but Culture Days will provide participants with marketing, promotion and administrative support.
Online applications for use of a VPL room for your BC Culture Days event can be made before May 15, 2015 at bc.culturedays.ca.
