UBCP/ACTRA Award Recipients Announced

The annual UBCP/ACTRA Awards took place November 7, 2015, honouring five members for their work in the creative industries over the past year. 

With 33 nominees, winners were announced in the following categories:

Best Actor – Michael Eklund for his role in Eadweard

Best Actress – Camille Sullivan for her role in Ally was Screaming\

Best Emerging Performer – Dakota Daulby for his role in Black Fly

Best Voice – Brian Drummond for his performance in Nerds & Monsters

Best Stunt – Leif Havdale for his performance in Arrow

The John Juliani Award of Excellence was presented to Brent Butt, and the Lorena Gale Woman of Distinction Award was presented to Marny Eng.

Among other highlights of the awards show was an uproarious zombie spoof number: “Bad Blood”. The hosts, local celebrities Roger Cross and Jill Morrison, involved the audience in the show throughout the evening. Last year’s host Tom Cavanagh, was also included in the fun.

On hand were some of Vancouver’s top performers including Nancy Robertson, David Lewis, Andrew Airlie, Aleks Paunovic, Ian Tracey, Moneca Delain, Ona Grauer, Peter and Julia Benson, Patrick Gallagher, and Carmen Moore.

The event sponsor was ACTRA Fraternal Benefit Society, and other sponsors included ACTRA/ Performers Rights Society; Casting Workbook; Canadian Media Production Association; D’Alessio Law Group; Directors Guild of Canada (BC Branch); IATSE 891; Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services; Brightlight Pictures; Lighthouse Pictures; Premiere Talent Management; and RED Management.

The UBCP/ACTRA Awards gala saw one of the largest audiences in its four-year history with over 650 industry professionals, including UBCP/ACTRA members, press and politicians in attendance.
